It’s been a while since I posted to the blog, and a lot has happened in that time. My wife and I got pregnant, moved, rented out our old house, and as of a week ago today, had the baby (my wife did most of the hard work on that one). I’ve had a few fleeting opportunities to post to the blog, but I still haven’t found the book that I’m reviewing. It’s in one of my boxes of books that hasn’t been unpacked yet.

There are two key words in the title of this chapter: ugly, and consumerist. When I first read the title, I was expecting it to focus on the latter, which would have been a good post this week, coming out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and continuing into the holiday shopping season. Unfortunately, the chapter focused more on the former.
