Christmas spirit is in full force in my house, right now. My last day of work ended at 4:00 this morning. The tree is up. The shopping is almost all done. The baby is having fun looking at and playing with all the decorations. And most of all, we’re listening to Christmas music.

There are two key words in the title of this chapter: ugly, and consumerist. When I first read the title, I was expecting it to focus on the latter, which would have been a good post this week, coming out of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and continuing into the holiday shopping season. Unfortunately, the chapter focused more on the former.
